The inauguration of the new section of Les Abattoires Skatepark (the Slaughter House Station) was on the 19th of March in Fribourg, Switzerland with the premier of Pontus Alv’s new film “I like it here inside my mind, don’t wake me this time.
Starting to write this article, I wondered about the term ‘professional d.i.y.’ which has been quietly existing for a while now. I mean, since the serious skatepark building business nowadays seems to be in the hand of skateboarders pretty much isn’t every project kind of professional d.i.y.? Well, we as skateboarders do it ourselves (just like the whole industry used to be), if we get paid for it or not, it’s bloody d.i.y., isn’t it!? We take matters into our own hands, this is something we should be really, really proud of and continue to do so.
Overall it was a great day. Had a good turnout raffled everything except few shirts. The bands came later and rocked. Might have to do another in spring.
In late summer we started a very special project in the basement of our store in Cologne. We had that space of approximately 60 square meters and thought of building a little bowl area down there. We had small experience from our DIY projects in Berlin, Münster and Wuppertal. But this project was special.
Juan, Jamie and me were skating this DIY under a bridge in Martigny, Vallis Switzerland. Some local skaters showed us the spot and Jamie tore it a new asshole…”
The creteraiser is to help raise money to finish Rocky’s bowl. All funds raised is for concrete to ad a snake run with a cradle next to the bowl and decks.
The spot is located in Sofia the capital of Bulgaria in Eastern Europe. We started building the spot about a year ago, there was only one concrete part of some structure and a lot of junk there, left from some old construction site. We started building there because there is a river and a good amount of junk for the back fill. The main idea was to build obstacles that aren’t built in Sofia and Bulgaria, like DIY curbs and kickers… The spot is built by the local skateboarders for skateboarders.
“Florianopolis is like no other place in the world. Everywhere you look there are backyards pools built for skating, backyard mini ramps and skate stuff everywhere. Just walking down the street you hear skating in backyards on every block.” – Neal Hendrix
Sadly, Henry “Swampy” Moore’s DIY bowl ‘SWAMPTON’ is no more. So, we’ve complied a little send off edit with the best shredding by Swampy himself – accompanied by Joxa, Jim Spencer and Jacob Tyson.
