Based on free entrance, cheap beer, good music bands and huge skateboard sessions, this story had started from nothing. No money to make the stage, no wood to build the skatepark, the bands were plugged on an old tractor power take-off and the park was built out of pallets and plywood found here and there, sometimes during the night when everybody was asleep! These are just a few examples of what DIY means!
The annual Bergfest is one of the best skate contests in Germany, if not Europe. Although it is technically a contest, this year’s event was more underground and diy with less big name sponsors and not so concerned with handing out big checks to the winners, but more interested in everyone having a good time…
This is the third year that we (G’nassis) organized the Malinas Machinas event in Mechelen. The first year we didn’t really knew what we were doing, but we knew that we wanted skateboarding, bands playing and the bowl filled up with water for a pool party. And that all ended up super good, so we decided to do it again the next year in pirate style.
If you were there, you know words can’t explain the madness that was going on! If you weren’t there, see you next year! – G’nassis
Malmö DIY was the 3rd annual event at the Sibbarp skatepark in Malmö, Sweden. It’s not about the Sibbarp skatepark being D.I.Y., it was build by CONCREATURES, a skatepark construction company ran in Sweden by Dave Toms and Jezza from Australia. The D.I.Y. event focuses on things like grip tape workshops (hosted this year by Zarosh) and other small skater led organizations that are doing their own thing, big or small, without corporate funding. BBQ, bands, Servant shoes for sale on the hood of the Servant van.. you know… no corporate bullshit. Just a small skate event, everyone having a good time, with some full on skateboarding action.
