Malmö Ultra Bowl 2015 at Sibbarp Skatepark

Ultra Bowl changed this year. Not the players, they are still all the best transition rippers of the moment, but the location moved from Stapelbäddsparken to Sibbarp. I arrived on Thursday afternoon, just at the end of the jump ramp session, at Malmö central station. It was a pretty good idea.

Right after that, I left my stuff at the hotel and headed to Stapelbäddsparken for the deep end session. This year we all had a rental bike. I think this was a brilliant idea because the most funny memories of the weekend were probably while biking! We biked there and the usual suspects were killing the bowl! One skater I hadn’t met yet, but heard of from my Spanish homies, was blasting big tricks like a pro. He is Jaime Mateu and that was a good introduction at Ultra Bowl. Check the short instagram edit from Jimmy Larsen to get an impression of the best tricks of the session!

Unfortunately, Frank Shaw got injured quite badly when he got in a collision with another skater and the guys knee impaled him in the chest. He had to go for some days in the hospital for observation. Keep on rocking Frank!

The second day the contest went on in Sibbarp. I biked there with Cody Lockwood and Kevin Kowalski, taking some detours and checking spots on the way. We discovered the best way to make use of our pink bike baskets, just throw in some ice blocks to cool down the beers. Sibbarp is a DIY style park. There are no big obstacles but it’s super fun to skate. A thousand lines and the freedom for skate creativity. Most of the runs ended up the skaters trying to blast big tricks on the biggest bank / quarter of the course. I think the spectators enjoyed it since it was right in front of them.

On Saturday the weather was terrible in the morning, but it dried up and the contest went on in the afternoon. Kids, girls and pros all got the chance to skate their runs. This time I biked with Donovan Rice and Jimmy Larsen, also detouring around. The bike ride is very pleasant, along the coast, half in nature, right on the beach. A lot of spots are great for a quick break! And we enjoyed the rides. It was fun to meet you guys!

Last day on Sunday, whoever survived the party made it again to Sibbarp. The way was not easy, since there was 100% head winds pretty much the whole 8km ride, together with Donovan Rice and Chris Cope. Pretty much a hell ride, but on the way back it was with tail wind, so super chill! The semifinals were great and the best ones moved on to the finals. I missed Jaime Mateu in there, who could not pull off a few (probably insane) tricks in his run due to skater traffic, but I’m sure next time he will make it through! Pro finals were amazing, the most insane tricks and transfers from and into the bowl. Cody literally killed it. He looked hungry and he skated the whole park as a DIY, grinding and slashing every corner to get speed for the big bank. He ended pulling out an ollie 540 second try. He deserved the win!

In the night I went to Christiania and I met with Jamie and Nahuel Ortega. I took a couple of pics and had a great night! Thanks John Magnusson to make this happenings, I always have great time over there and already hyped to be back soon!
