Issue #4 is at the printers and is due out January 27th.
In the 3rd year of the Ultrabowl, they decided not to have the contest in the ‘backyard’ style pool, but instead to have it in the whole park (except in the pool). Skaters from all over the world attended and as could be expected, some serious shredding went down. I wasn’t there as I decided to explore previously unvisited lands in Croatia and Slovenia, so there’s not much for me to say, so look at the photos and watch the replay of any heat you want.
The 3rd issue of CONFUSION “international skateboard” Magazine is at the printers and will be shipping out in 10 days!
100 pages, offset print, on matt paper. A5/half mag size/full color
We made this trailer last year to premier at the opening of Wasted Box Skateshop in Cologne, Germany. The concept is to combine both skateboarding and surfing in one video, thus the FUSION, or blending of the two activities, into one video. We are no longer going to combine the skateboarding and surfing in one section, but instead have two separate sections for the viewing pleasure of those who are not interested in surfing, which will allow us to have a complete surf section after the full length skate section.
Malmö, Sweden’s UltraBowl II held last August in Stäpelbäddsparken’s ‘backyard pool’ had some truly insane skateboard action going down! Day 1 was qualifications for the final day’s PRO semi’s and finals, and Master’s finals. Serious ripping was taking place from pool / transition skaters from all over USA and Europe. Skaters included: Kevin Kowalski, Josh Mattson, Ben Raybourn, Cody Lockwood, Zarosh Eggleston, Per Magnusson, Kevin Wenzke, Guillarme Mocquin, Julien Benoliel, Tim Johnson, Benji Galloway, Josh “Skreetch” Sandoval, Frank Faria, Alex Giraud, Björn Klotz, Anders Tellen, Mathias Nylen, Andreas “Snooken” Lindstöm… to name a few…
Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, August 20th, in Malmö, Sweden to be exact, they held the MALMÖ ULTRA-BOWL II, where they invited skaters from all over Europe and the USA. The event was two days long in the backyard style pool at the Stapelbäddsparken skatepark.
Josh Mattson testing out the Roosevelt Park in San Jose.
The Roosevelt Park in San Jose is similar to the Santa Cruz skatepark. Not surprisingly, both are designed by everyone’s favorite skatepark designer, Zack Wormhoudt, who arguably has increasingly improved his skills by his 100th design attempt.
When I was back in Santa Cruz in late September, I had a late night “top secret” call that the legendary Buena Vista pool was dug out again and was off limits until they were running a permission contest on the land, agreed by the owner because he heard he could make some money from this event, and then he would fill ‘er in the next day – forever….
