If you didn’t make it out to South Philly for the 16th annual Sober Vs. Wasted madness at FDR Skatepark, you missed pure, unfiltered East Coast skate alchemy. Underneath the I-95 overpass, the concrete mecca transformed into a high-octane battleground where skaters threw themselves down newly poured DIY deck extensions while punk bands like McRad, Prostitution, and Distest absolutely melted faces.
The beauty of this lawless, self-poured paradise is that amidst the heavy metal, chaotic collisions, and the legendary “Gnar-Bar” lemonade stand, the local ecosystem completely takes care of its own; anonymous donors picked up everyone’s entry fees just to ensure the opening jam was a free-for-all showcase of hard-hitting transition savagery.
When the dust settled over the spray-painted bowls, it was clear that whether you were fueled by pure adrenaline or pure intoxicants, FDR’s signature “no frills, all chills” spirit continues to prove why it’s the most fiercely authentic DIY scene … on Earth….”
