El pasado 11 de Octubre tuvo lugar el Tournament, organizado por Cruzade skateboards y los chicos de Ramputene DIY, lugar en el que se llevó a cabo. Para los que conozcáis el Tournament, no es fácil explicarlo… Puro patín, mucho engorile,trucos y más trucos, risas y más risas… El Tournament se celebra con la función de recaudar dinero para comprar cemento para el propio DIY, y sobre todo, para juntarnos y pegarnos una buena sesión de patín. Y cada año, ¡esto va a más!
El evento consiste en un torneo de skate, un 1 vs 1 , cada uno enseñando sus mejores trucos, hasta que solo quede un ganador. El juez del Tournament no es ni Tony Hawk ni Bob Burquinst, si no nada más ni nada menos que el público. Jairo y Txuri, al mando del micrófono, convocan el aplausómetro, de modo que el skater que más ruido recibe por aplausos, patín o cómo sea, es el vencedor. A veces se complica la cosa y puede decidirse por un pulso, por una petanca con los skates o por comerte un pimiento habanero. Es la magia del Tournament.
Al igual que el resto de los años, hemos tenido visitas desde distintas partes de la península: desde Andalucía, Valencia, Cataluña, etc. pero siempre, buena gente que viene a dejarse el lomo en las transiciones y la voz en los gritos.
Azzido Domingo listo a los platos, Artritis para quemar la batería y la guitarra, y comienza la fiesta.
El nivel no decae y cada vez presenciamos más burradas. Muchos aéreos por encima de la puerta, algún que otro footplant y wallstuck en los pilares y paredes del DIY, y los coping no paran de llorar por todos los grinds que sufren.
Ya estamos en la final y tenemos al local Alain Kortabitarte, quién viene de sufrir una lesión, y por otro lado desde Bizkaia a Peio Gónzalez. Antes de que empezará sabíamos que nos iban a dar un buen show, y así fue. Los dos fueron con todo. Truco por allí, truco por alla. Un no parar de maravillas. Llegó el final y Jairo decide dejarles 3 intentos a cada uno para su mejor cartucho. Al segundo intento Peio se pegó un Kickflip bs lipslide por encima de la puerta dejándonos a todos boquiabiertos. Pero Alain, quien decía que iba ir con todo, así lo hizo. Se pegó un Fs alley oop one foot por encima de la puerta y seguido plancho un Hardflip footplant en la pared dejando claro que era el ganador. ¡MUCHO ALAIN!
Y así concluyó el Tournament de este año. Quisiera agradecer a Cruzade skateboards y a los chicos de Ramputene DIY por organizar un evento cómo este ya que es un día que nunca defrauda. Last October 11th, the Tournament took place, organized by Cruzade skateboards and the guys from Ramputene DIY, the venue where it was held. For those of you who know the Tournament, it’s not easy to explain… Pure skating, a lot of hype, tricks and more tricks, laughter and more laughter… The Tournament is held to raise money to buy cement for the DIY spot itself, and above all, to get together and have a great skating session. And every year, it gets bigger!
The event consists of a skateboarding tournament, a 1 vs 1, each skater showing off their best tricks, until only one winner remains. The judge of the Tournament isn’t Tony Hawk or Bob Burquinst, but none other than the audience. Jairo and Txuri, at the microphone, call out the applause meter, so the skater who gets the most noise from applause, skating, or whatever, is the winner. Sometimes things get complicated, and the winner might be decided by an arm wrestle, a game of pétanque with skateboards, or even eating a habanero pepper. That’s the magic of the Tournament.
Just like every year, we’ve had visitors from all over the peninsula: Andalusia, Valencia, Catalonia, and so on. But always, good people who come to give it their all on the transitions and shout their hearts out.
Azzido Domingo is ready on the turntables, Artritis is ready to shred on the drums and guitar, and the party begins.
The level of skill doesn’t drop, and we witness more and more insane moves. Lots of aerials over the door, the occasional footplant and wallstuck on the DIY pillars and walls, and the coping is practically weeping from all the grinds it endures.
We’re in the final now, and we have local favorite Alain Kortabitarte, who’s coming back from an injury, and on the other side, Peio González from Bizkaia. Before it even started, we knew they were going to put on a great show, and they did. Both of them went all out. Trick here, trick there. A non-stop barrage of amazing moves. The end came, and Jairo decided to give each of them three attempts to pull off their best trick. On his second attempt, Peio landed a kickflip backside lipslide over the door, leaving us all speechless. But Alain, who said he was going to go all out, did just that. He landed a frontside alley oop one foot over the door and then nailed a hardflip footplant on the wall, making it clear he was the winner. Way to go, Alain!
And that’s how this year’s tournament concluded. I’d like to thank Cruzade Skateboards and the guys from Ramputene DIY for organizing an event like this; it’s a day that never disappoints.
