La Casita DIY – Spain

This is the perfect example to show, that if you really want to, YOU can also have a diy spot in your city or town.

You only need these three ingredients: Team work, muscle work and a bit of cash. Oh! I guess you also need a place to build it.

Down at Fuengirola (south of Spain), the locals had all of these ingredients, plus the perfect place where to build.

Just out of the city center, on the top of a hill, sits an abandoned house. For years the place was being used for doing rave party’s & after raves, vandals randomly appeared to destroy and burn stuff, even on some occasion strange cars were seen driving up near the house and exchanging suspicious packages. Without knowing it, this was all playing in favour of the local skaters!

One day, well known here in Spain, skate filmer Edu ‘Mac’, had the idea. He and a bunch of locals (Fernando, Antoñito, Pablo) gathered some cash and got together to start building at the house. The idea was just to build a ledge, a bank and a small quarter. Even though it was only these three things, there was a lot of work to be done.

The place was full of rubble, broken glass, human waste and all that sort of shit you usually find in an abandoned place like that.

After a few weeks o f hard work, the time came when all was cleaned, built and ready to go and then…the cops showed up!

But to everyones’ surprise, after seeing the drastic change they had given the house they were pretty impressed and were cool with the idea. So they gave the locals the thumbs up for using the placeto skate.

From then on, brick by brick, little by little, more and more modules have been built, even painted, giving the place a real ‘home’ look.

La Casita DIY’ has got well known around the south and has been visited by well known skaters who after seeing the hard work that has been put into the place, most of them have lent a hand or donated some cash towards the construction. So if you are down in the south of Spain and near the area of Malaga, don’t think twice, the place is well worth visiting and obviously skating. You are all welcome!!
