Minin Jamit 2014 – Hämeenlinna, Finland

It’s called Mini only because in the late 90`s there was a miniramp and everyone met at ”Mini” for skateboarding. Later came the small street obstacles but only about 5 years ago, the local skaters totally took over the place and things really started to happen. The concrete started to appear with the very little support from some companies, the city and some extra cash we got from the local indoor skatepark Laitos (worth a story itself). It really seemed like almost anyone of any age who was spent any time at Mini would work on the new stuff. I’m not sure if people felt pressure about it or they didn’t like the localism this may have created or if it’s a good or a bad thing? But it sure has brought a lot of people together and it’s really a must to keep things rolling! So we’ve build something new every summer and when it’s done… Minin Jamit happens!

This year a lot more young skaters showed up than the years before and we had a really good time with the crazy sessioning that went on, the contest, the best trick contests and the afterparty. I’m not going to try writing more to describe how much it means for the locals in this little town that all these people from all over come together for that one day to skate the place. So thanks everybody and see you next year! And thanks for supporting the event: Portland wheel company, Laesh clothing, Linnabike, Windmill and Helsinki surfshop. Check some photos below.
